Abstract
This paper presents the analysis of flux switching motor (FSM) using analytical and finite elements methods. The design procedure with the optimal combination of pole arcs is presented. A comprehensive programme based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is developed in MATLAB to compute the maximum torque with suitable pole arcs. Using transient two-dimensional Finite Element Analyses, the machine is modelled and simulated. The simulation results obtained are validated with the PSO algorithm which proves the effectiveness of the design approach. A prototype of 8/4 pole FSM with the optimal value of pole arcs is constructed and tested.
