Abstract

To estimate voltage stability, maximum loadability limit (MLL) is one approach. MLL is the margin between the operating point of the system and the maximum loading point. The optimum cost of generation for MLL of power system can be formulated as an optimization problem, which consists of two steps namely computing MLL and the optimum cost of generation for MLL. This paper utilizes the hybrid particle swarm optimization, which incorporates the breeding and subpopulation process in genetic algorithm into particle swarm optimization. The implementations of HPSO to test systems show that it converges to better solution much faster.
