Abstract

In this paper the range of optimum lens shapes for theoretical pseudophakic eyes with high myopia is given as a function of intraocular lens (IOL) power using physiological and optical design criteria. Wave-front aberration in the plane of the exit pupil in pseudophakic eyes with high myopia is studied. Taking into account the defocus and spherical aberration coefficients, we have used a coefficient which gives us information about the image quality of optical systems. Considering an IOL diameter of 5$5 mm and excluding concave surfaces facing the retina, this coefficient and the anterior sagitta of each IOL are calculated as functions of the bending factor. Bending factors that give an anterior sagitta of the IOL lower than 0$5 mm and a coefficient lower than the coefficient of an emmetropic phakic theoretical eye are chosen as the optimum shapes of the IOL for each power.
