Abstract
Optimum processors for detection of known and random signals in noise using an array of sensors are derived. It is shown how the Schwartz inequality may be used to solve the problem of maximizing the detection index in both cases. This approach provides both the optimum filter functions and the performance of the optimum processor simply and directly. Narrow-band signal assumptions are avoided.
