Abstract
In this paper, Taguchi method is used to explore the effects of process parameters of electro chemical machining (ECM) viz. electrolyte concentration, voltage, current, electrolyte flow rate and tool feed rate on its responses viz. material removal rate (MRR), and surface roughness (SR) using NaCl as electrolyte on mild steel workpiece. The experiment is conducted based on Taguchi L18 orthogonal array and determined the significant process parameters for higher MRR, and lower surface roughness. Moreover, the optimal process parameters for each response is also determined. Later, Analysis of variance determined the contribution of each process parameter on MRR and SR. Voltage has highest contribution process parameters followed by electrolyte concentration and tool feed rate for MRR, and current has highest contribution for SR followed by electrolyte concentration.
