Abstract

Membrane capsules built of sodium cellulose sulfate (NaCS) and PDADMAC offer major advantages over conventional membrane systems and have already been applied successfully in antibody production as well as in tumor therapy. The production of sodium cellulose sulfate by heterogeneous sulfating of cellulose is performed in a liquid reagent composed of sulfuric acid and isopropanol. The performance of each of the process steps and their effects on the final product quality have not been fully investigated yet.
