Abstract
This paper presents a method for optimization of costs associated with reliability in radial distribution systems through switch placement using genetic algorithms. An analysis of how the results are impacted by restrictions on the possibilities of allocating switches in one or both ends of each section of the feeder is done. Optimized switch locations are defined to improve restoration and reduce costs associated with reliability. Simulations in real feeders are performed, and the results presented show significant improvements for all tested feeders.
