Abstract

Abstract Water jet peening (WJP) is a surface enhancement treatment used to modify the surface properties of materials. In the present study the influence of hardness, surface roughness and compressive residual stress were studied during water jet peening of AA6063-T6 aluminium alloy. The input factors considered in the research work are Water Pressure, Stand of Distance and Traverse rate. In present work, the experiments are conducted by Box-Behnken Design (BBD) and Grey relational analysis is used to optimize the working parameters. The experimental result indicates that there is a significant improvement in micro hardness and Surface roughness of the peened sample over base sample. The compressive residual stresses were compared over the base sample and suitable recommendations are presented. The optimization is done by using grey relational analysis and optimized parameters are determined.
