Abstract

Duplex brass has been widely used in industrial applications due to their excellent properties such as corrosion resistance and strength. In this investigation, α-β brass was fabricated by stir casting method. The process parameters of electrical discharge machining (EDM) such as voltage, current, flushing pressure and pulse on time are considered to study the machinability of α-β brass using response surface methodology (RSM). The impact of these process parameters on the responses, in particular, tool wear rate (TWR) and material removal rate (MRR) were measured by implementing the Box Behnken design. The optimum combination of the process parameters were identified for maximum MRR and minimum TWR. The validation of the experiment was carried out by analysis of variance (ANOVA). As a result, it has been identified that, current is the most significant parameter which affects MRR and TWR.
