Abstract

A gas chromatograph-atomic absorption spectrometer (GC-AAS) system equipped with a quartz tube atomizer was optimized for organotin determination. A furnace gas mixture of 60% H 2/40% air and an operating temperature of 800°C produced maximum detector response. The calculated limits of detection (three times baseline noise level) were 7.3 pg Sn as Me 3 BuSn, 8.2 pg Sn as Me 2Bu 2 Sn, 16.6 pg Sn as MeBu 3Sn and 17.2 pg Sn as Bu 4 Sn. The GC-AAS system gave acceptable chromatographic performance with a mixture of Me x Bu 4− x Sn compounds.
