Abstract
A simple and reliable non-enyzmatic glucose sensor can be synthesized by anodizing copper foil in a solution of NaOH. A 2 (5-1) experiment design with two replicates is used to screen important factors and it was found that the three most important factors to consider are the anodizing potential, NaOH concentration, and temperature. A central composite experiment design is used to optimize these parameters and produce the optimum sensor. The optimum sensor has a good sensitivity of 479.96 μA cm -2 mM -1 to glucose, insensitivity to common interference, high linear range until 12.5 mM, stability over 10 days with an acceptable repeatability, sensitivity degrading by only 9.96% (n = 10), and high reproducibility. The developed experiment design will pave way to the mass production of cheap, simple, and effective non enzymatic glucose sensors in the future.
