Abstract

The development of nuclear power plants in the Unified Energy System (UES) of Russia in the period to 2050 under changing conditions of interfuel competition with thermal and renewable energetics is examined. The main external uncertainty factors affecting NPP competitiveness are identified and their ranges are determined. The technological factors of making NPP more competitive by improving their technical and economic metrics are determined. A summary analysis of the calculations performed in the optimization model of the development of electro-energetics is presented and the role of NPP in the technological restructuring of the UES is determined. The contribution of nuclear energy in raising the energy security and environmental friendliness of electro-energetics and in curbing greenhouse gas emissions was investigated.
