Abstract

In this work the dynamics of a periodically excited neon glow discharge is examined by determining a Lyapunov exponent spectrum from the discharge current. Therefore it is necessary to reconstruct an attractor with the Takens delay coordinate method [F. Takens, in {ital Dynamical Systems and Turbulence}, edited by D. Rand and L.-S. Young, Lecture Notes in Mathematics Vol. 898 (Springer, Berlin, 1981), p. 366] from the discharge current topologically correct. For a simultaneous determination of both the embedding dimension and the delay time the wavering product is used here as an efficient method. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}
