Abstract

In this paper, a new index named as reactive power stability index is proposed for finding most favorable location for placement of D-STATCOM which provides maximum voltage stability in radial distribution system. For this, the load flow is carried out for calculating bus parameters with probabilistic load model. Probable load is calculated using Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) method. The main contributions of the paper are: (a) Optimal D-STATCOM placement based on the new reactive power stability index, (b) Determination of best D-STATCOM size with probabilistic ZIP load model. (c) Comparison of energy saving with D-STATCOM placement in distribution network considering deterministic and probabilistic load model. The proposed algorithm is tested on rural distribution feeder of 85-bus radial distribution system by using MATLAB software. Results show the reduction in line losses and enhancement in voltage profile.
