Abstract

The large-scale development and utilization of new energy resource extremely promotes the construction and application of the flexible DC power grid especially in China. This paper focuses on the operation stability and new energy transmission of an actual regional power grid in North China, including new energy plants, the flexible DC power grid, a pumped storage hydropower plant (PSHP) with variable speed pumped storage unit (VSPSU) and regional AC power grids. According to the operation rules and goals, the economic operation model of the flexible DC-PSHP system is established by the mixed-integer second-order cone programming. Considering the transmission and consumption of the new energy generation, two operation strategies and three simulation scenarios are proposed. The day-ahead optimal operation schemes of PSHP in different scenarios are given by the case simulation. The results show that the proposed strategies can satisfy the operation demands of the regional power grid both in new energy generation transmission and operation economic benefits.
