Abstract

In this paper, we present a scheme to maximize the video quality considering H.264 Scalable Video Coding in Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) wireless sensor networks. In this framework, we consider a multihop Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) with source nodes, intermediate nodes and a destination node. We develop various video optimization paradigms based on sum and max-min video quality optimization where we maximize the sum quality and minimum video quality of the video sources in the WSN. We also propose a stable matching based optimal scheme for OFDMA based subcarrier allocation, which is seen to have a superior video quality performance compared to greedy and random allocation schemes. Further we propose a framework for optimal power allocation at the different sensor nodes in the multihop WSN. This scheme is seen to result in a significantly enhanced video quality compared to equal power allocation. Through simulation results, we demonstrate that the proposed optimal subcarrier and power allocation schemes in the multihop WSN lead to a substantial overall improvement in the quality of the received video stream at the destination node.
