Abstract
This paper is a review of inter-symbol interference in digital communications. Linear and nonlinear equalisation approaches have been surveyed. Advances in equalisation techniques are presented. Techniques reviewed in this paper include linear equalisers, decision-feedback equalisers and their adaptive versions. Also, the problem of inter-symbol interference in presence of non-Gaussian noise is mentioned. A large list of references serves to complement the brief review undertaken here.
