Abstract

When the grounding fault occurs at the network side of the series compensation device, there will be a large temporary overvoltage between the terminals. Based on the analysis of overvoltage protection, the thyristor bypass switch (TBS) with microsecond hardware is used to transfer the fault current through the device rapidly, which makes the arrester produce instantaneous impulse residual voltage only at the natural commutation point, effectively reduces the voltage ratio of the arrester, and then the optimal configuration scheme of the arrester with series compensation device is put forward. Taking the large capacity hybrid unified power flow controller as an example, the basic parameters of arrester are determined by RTDS transient simulation calculation, and the voltage of each measuring point before and after arrester configuration is compared and analyzed through simulation model checking, so as to determine the rationality of arrester configuration.
