Abstract

AbstractThe optical absorption spectra of amorphous TlCl and TlBr films are investigated in the photon energy range near the absorption edge. Annealing the films and tracing the spectra with annealing temperature discontinuous changes in the shape of the spectra are observed at two different annealing temperatures. A continuous random network model is presented for the structure of the amorphous TlCl and TlBr films, which is in agreement with recent structural data. The annealing dependence of the spectra is understood by assuming the existence of two disordered modifications with different short‐range order.
