Abstract
This paper presents an experiment on the rotation of polystyrene microparticles 5 μm in diameter in seventh-order hypergeometric beams. A multilevel diffraction optical element was used to form such a beam. It is shown that, despite the process error in fabricating the multilevel diffraction optical element, the resulting beam is fairly efficient in transferring angular momentum to a group of polystyrene microparticles.
