Abstract

A green phosphor, ( and ), was synthesized by a flux-assisted solid reaction, and its vacuum ultraviolet excitation and emission characteristics were examined in this study. It was observed that under 147 and 172 nm excitations, the phosphor showed a strong green emission at 520 nm corresponding to the electric dipole transition of ions in tetrahedral sites. The chromaticity and peak intensity of the (CIE color coordinate, , ) phosphor were more desirable than those of the (CIE color coordinate, , ) phosphor as a green primary color. Particularly, the decay time of this green phosphor was less than , which is favorable to a three-dimensional (3D) display application.
