Abstract

In this paper, we use the frequency-periodic method to analyse the optical systems noise output performance in cases where the systems are excited by semiconductor lasers with non-Lorentzian lineshapes. The theoretical closed-formulations of noise performance of linear time-invariant systems are obtained. All these formulations can be applied to the optical systems using semiconductor lasers as light sources, not only with non-Lorentzian lineshapes, but also with Lorentzian lineshapes. One application of these results to the Mach–Zehnder interferometer is also demonstrated.
