Abstract

Optical pulse compression due to diffraction of light by a linearly chirped magnetostatic spin wave has been considered. The compression efficiency and the amplitude of the compressed pulse are calculated as functions of the spin wave amplitude. Spin wave pulse generation has also been considered under the condition of interaction between two optical pulses propagating with different velocities. The spin wave pulse width is much greater than the optical pulse width.
