Abstract

ANOMALOUS backscattering or “back gloss” has been noticed by Brandenberg and Neu1 for some paints and Gordon2 for soils. A semi-automatic goniophotometer recently constructed at this establishment has shown that this effect also occurs with many materials including magnesium oxide, magnesium carbonate, white card, paper, abraded metallic surfaces and many fine powders.
