Abstract

The optical absorption of a medium containing aggregates of small particles is calculated in the quasistatic limit using a diffuse-cluster model in which each aggregate is considered to be a sphere with a radially dependent filling factor. For metallic particles, aggregation broadens the Fr\ohlich resonance and increases the low-frequency absorption by about a factor of 100.
