Optical diagrams of prism spectrometers with quadrupole lenses

Abstract

This paper deals with optical diagrams of prism spectrometers for charged particles employing single quadrupole lenses or the corresponding doublets as collimating and focussing lenses. The parameters of spectrometers with an astigmatic beam at the entrance to and exit from the prism are considered. Conditions for the compensation of the third-order spherical aberration of quadrupole lens systems in prism spectrometers by means of octupoles are determined.
