Abstract

The authors propose a new configuration for the optical butting of two linear image sensing arrays. The arrays are butted with the help of a rectangular prism having a beam splitter diagonal surface. The two arrays are configured in such a way as to cause the centers of photosites of one array to coinside with the centers of channel stoppers of the other array. The composite array developed by this method can be used to either cover double the swath area with the same resolution or to improve the resolution by a factor of two on the same swath area without doubling the required field of view.
