Abstract
Optical bistability is studied for single photon excitation of a nonlinear resonator by a field with random fluctuations in phase and amplitude. The distribution of the real amplitude of the field of the resonator is calculated and the regions of most probable realization of the amplitude corresponding to stable equilibrium states are determined. It is shown that in a random field for single photon excitation, optical tristability arises and for two photon excitation, quadstability arises.
