Abstract

In the present work, tellurite glasses were investigated. Five glass compositions were used: 70 TeO2 + 18 ZnO +12 X mol% with (x = Li2CO3, Na2CO3, K2CO3, PbO and Bi2O3). Density, molar volume, molar refractivity, polarizability and metallization with different modifiers were determined. Structural changes due to the presence of different modifiers were observed by Raman measurements of functional groups such as trigonal TeO4 (tbp), trigonal TeO3 (tp) bipyramid, Te–O–Te bonds, oxygen (BO) and nonbridged oxygen (NBO) bonds. The effects of modifiers on the optical energy gap (Eopt) and refractive index were also presented and discussed.
