Abstract
Dye materials play important role in dye-sensitized solar cells, photo-galvanic cells, etc. Role of dye materials heavily depends on their photo-stability. In present research, the photo-stability of very safe Carmoisine-A dye has been studied spectroscopically to explore it for solar power and storage through photogalvanic cells. Absorption spectra of this dye have been measured in the non-illuminated and illuminated conditions. Further, the effect of electrolyte materials (Lactic acid reductant- Cocamidopropylbetaine surfactant-NaOH) on the photo-stability and light absorption property of this dye has also been studied. It is observed that the spectra of post and pre-illuminated dye almost superimposes on each other in almost whole wavelength range showing negligible effect of sunlight on physical and chemical stability of this dye. This dye as part of electrolyte is also found photo-stable and a good light harvesting material indicating the feasibility of this dye for solar energy harvesting through photogalvanic cells.
