Abstract

ABSTRACTWe have proposed and successfully simulated a general design concept of an 8PSK generator using a silicon microring modulator. Usually, quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) is generated using in-phase/quadrature modulator in balanced condition or in un-balanced condition showing a square-shape and rectangular-shape constellation mapping in complex plane, respectively. By introducing 8 dB loss in the Q-arm of the first QPSK modulator, an unbalanced QPSK modulator has been generated. Thereby cascading both the QPSK modulators, an optical 8PSK has been synthesized.
