Abstract

Dr Brian Iddon, MP, argues that Britain is on the right track, but that if it is to compete with its major competitors in the high-tech world, decision makers cannot afford to relax but rather need to find more investment to promote R&D in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) policy area. This article reviews the UK Government's attempts to improve the conversion of new discoveries into useful 'products' by creating new organisations and by shifting the emphasis of its R&D investment.
