Abstract

A summary of the formulae and tables are given to permit calculation of the rate of electronic excitation and de-excitation of atoms <vσ>. The effective cross section and the parameter <vσ> are calculated for transitions without change of atomic spin by Born's method, and for intercombination transitions by the Born-Ochkur method. Bates' and Damgaard's approximation to Coulomb's atomic wave function was used. The theoretical results were approximated by simple equations of two variables. The parameters were found by the least squares method and tabulated as functions of the effective principal quantum numbers of the initial and final states for the transitions s-s, s-p, s-d, p-p, p-d.
