Abstract
For dynamically strained members the limit state concept has some drawbacks, the author argues. But the trend towards more realistic forecasts of probability is internationally accepted. Here he suggests a practical variant in the form of an analysis of operational strength, an alternative to the calculation of fatigue loadbearing capacity according to Woehler's diagram. A semi-probabilistic method, it enables computation of normal and design values for loads, section strains and material strengths.
