Abstract

Battery energy storage system (BESS) is effective to reduce supply-demand imbalances in power systems with large integration of photovoltaic (PV) power generation. Consideration of the locations of PV systems and BESSs becomes more important for the future power systems with much larger PV integration because the local constraints such as voltage or transmission capacity will become stricter. In this study, we proposed an economic load dispatching control (EDC) method for generators and BESSs by (Optimal Power Flow) OPF. The proposed method is evaluated by numerical simulations conducted on a bulk power system model. The simulation results show that the BESSs can work for the reduction in supply-demand imbalances with maintaining their controllability.
