Abstract
Lyophilized extracts of embryonic, post-embryonic and adult chick total lens proteins were tested against pigeon lens γ-crystallin antiserum by different immunochemical methods in order to determine the time of appearance of this crystallin antigen in chick lens. Results obtained from the experiments agree in showing that the immunoprecipitin line against pigeon lens γ-crystallin antiserum first begins to appear from the 1-week-old lens. This delay in appearance could possibly be one of the reasons why the amount of γ-crystallin is so low in adult chick lens.
