Abstract
The article discusses the methodological problems of onomastic research.The purpose of our research is the analysis of onomastic research methods.Achieving the goal involves the solving of the following tasks: 1) determining the terminological basis of the research; 2) showing the capabilities of the methods in the study of proper names. General scientific, linguistic and onomastic methods are considered. The object of the article is the methodology of onomastic research. The subject of the study is the general and special methods. The practical value of the work lies in the possibility of using the analyzed methods in onomastic studies. As a result, it was found that the application of methods helps to explore various aspects of names, besides it helps to come to certain scientific conclusions, which are the maingoals of any research.
