On-line process analysis and control in biotechnology

Abstract

Measuring techniques can be developed and adapted for the characterization of bioreactors, for on-line process analysis and for the determination of biological parameters of cells during fermentation. Mathematical models can be formulated for bioreactors and cell regulation and a combined model for these can be reduced for use in process control. Microprocessors and minicomputers give further scope for data acquisition, model implementation and process control.
