Abstract

Onionlike functional microspheres were obtained by aerosol-assisted self-assembly of a functional block copolymer, poly(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate)-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PTEPM-b-P2VP). Through a self-gelation reaction in PTEPM layers, onionlike organic/inorganic hybrid spheres were prepared. Using P2VP layers to capture gold ions, composite particles with well-defined alternating layers of Au nanoclusters and silicon oxide networks were obtained.
