Abstract
A method for simultaneous input power and noise match in microwave amplifiers was proposed by J. Engberg [1] and developed by B. M. Albinsson [2]. The transistor described in these articles does not achieve its maximum available gain and its output is mismatched, thus inhibitting the signal properties. In the present paper, a simple new method to calculate the feedback for simultaneous noise and power match is presented. An additional advantage of this method is that the feedback makes the transistor unconditionally stable and helps to achieve the maximum available gain, which is near to its maximum unilateral power gain. The feedback calculation problem is solved by using the commercially available program Mathcad [3]. Calculation examples with different transistors and a design of a one-stage amplifier at 12 GHz in microstrip technology are presented and discussed.
