Abstract

This paper presents one-step approach for synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using plasma liquid discharge AgNO 3 solutions in present different type capping agents: sodium alginate, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The nanoparticles were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy. The effect of reaction conditions such as the concentration of silver ions and capping agent on the synthesis of AgNPs was studied. Silver nanoparticles -alginate composite beads were synthesized as filler materials of packed columns for drinking water disinfection. Composite beads prepared using different type capping agents were found to be effective in disinfecting the E. coli to different extents.
