Abstract

ABSTRACT In June 2005, Ruth Pagell became University Librarian of the Li Ka Shing Library, Singapore Management University. Except for one year spent abroad with the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, Ruth worked her entire professional life in the United States until this move. Beginning her career as a reference librarian in a New Jersey public library, she assumed positions of increasing responsibilities in university business libraries in Philadelphia and Atlanta. Now, as University Librarian, Ruth has the opportunity of a career to influence University administrators, as well as the challenge of organizing services in a brand new library. The position in Singapore offered her everything she sought in a world class city. Ruth shares her perspective on her journey and offers advice for those contemplating a similar adventure.
