Abstract

Light propagation in two semi-infinite turbid media separated by a plane interface is considered in the diffusion approximation. The two media are characterised by different scattering and absorption coefficients and different speeds of light. We derive one-dimensional Green functions for an instantaneous plane source situated parallel to the interface. The solutions, in the form of single integrals, are obtained by the application of the Laplace transform in time and its subsequent inversion using the method of Bellman, Marshak and Wing. These Green functions can be useful in conjunction with experiments on characterisation of biological tissues.
