Abstract

Excited states in the nuclei 127,129,131,133Xe were populated using the reactions 127I(p, n) 127Xe and 126,128,130Te(α, n) 129,131,133Xe and their de-excitation was studied using conventional γ-ray and conversion-electron spectroscopy. A large number of new levels are identified, most of which are assigned a definite spin-parity. Shell-model arguments are used to identify one- and three-quasiparticle states. The competition between vibrational and quasiparticle excitations is studied, and it is found that quasiparticle excitations become yrast with the filling of the N = 82 neutron shell. Notably, the vh11/2 band is cut by three-quasiparticle excitations.
