Abstract

(Anesth Analg. 2024;138(1):70–84) Intrathecal opioids are effective for postoperative analgesia following CD, but they also have unpleasant side effects including shivering, nausea, vomiting, respiratory depression, and pruritus. The mechanisms of intrathecal opioid-induced pruritus are largely unknown. It is unknown if ondansetron has an antipruritic effect when administered with neuraxial analgesia. This study is an up-to-date systematic review that addressed the effectiveness of ondansetron for the prevention of pruritus that is associated with intrathecal opioids in women having CD.
