Abstract

It is well known that short time spectral analysis and synthesis can be done efficiently by using the combination of polyphase networks (PPN) and fast Fourier transform (FFT) processors in the one-dimensional (1-D) case [1], [3]-[6], whereas no comparable solution has been proposed for the two-dimensional (2-D) case. This paper shows an extension of polyphase filter banks to the 2-D case and gives applications on variable filters, e.g., for geophysical problems (fan filters). The procedure described can be easily extended to any dimension.
