Abstract

Active Queue Management (AQM) schemes complement Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) congestion-control mechanisms in reducing queuing delay, packet loss, and in improving network throughput. This paper presents a detailed mathematical review of the control-theoretic AQM feedback structure. We highlight and clarify the misconceptions regarding its usage, and furthermore, we verify and validate the numerical time-domain and event-domain simulations of existing AQM schemes using the MATLAB-Simulink platform and the NS-3 simulator platform respectively. Finally, conclusions and some future research directions are briefly discussed.
