Abstract

Presented is the problem of using transformed auxiliary variables in regression analysis of survey data. In constructing a regression estimator for the finite population mean, there is no asymptotic cost due to the estimation of transformation parameters under mild conditions. However, the effects of estimating transformed auxiliary variables on a model-based predictor are in general not negligible. For a regression equation, the effects on the estimation of regression coefficients may be severe.
