Abstract

A study of the postpolymerization kinetics has been carried out for methyl methacrylate at 30 and 40°. It is shown that the chain termination mechanism changes from a bimolecular at 0·15% conversion to a monomolecular at conversions of >20%, owing to the physical isolation of radicals. The stationary rate of postpolymerization depends on the degree of conversion at which initiation ceases, and is highest at ∼30% conversion.
