Abstract

In the hæmolysis of mammalian red cells, whether by complement and amboceptor, freezing and thawing, saponin, or hypotonic saline, the amount of hæmoglobin liberated is determined by the number of cells hæmolysed. The cells give up no hæmoglobin until they hæmolyse, and then liberate all or very nearly all of it. There is no evidence that partial liberation of hæmoglobin occurs.
